How to Write a CV for Teachers
Schools hire on more than qualifications — they want to see how you teach, what you've achieved in the classroom, and whether you fit their subjects and age groups. A strong teaching CV makes all of that clear quickly. Here's how to write one.
Lead with qualifications and certification
Teaching is a credential-gated profession, so put your qualifications and certification front and centre where a school can verify them at a glance. Lead with your degree, your teaching certification or license, and any subject endorsements, each with the issuing body and dates. For international schools — common across the Gulf — name the curricula you're certified to teach, whether IB, British, American, or a national curriculum, because schools filter applicants on exactly that fit. Make your registration or license status current and easy to find rather than buried in a paragraph. If you're still completing a qualification, say so honestly with an expected date. Get this block clear and a hiring coordinator can confirm you're eligible before reading further — which is what lets the rest of your CV, the subjects you teach and the classroom impact you've had, actually do its job.
Specify subjects, grades, and curricula
Recruiters match teachers to vacancies fast, so state exactly what and whom you teach: subjects, grade levels or age ranges, and curricula. "Secondary mathematics teacher, grades 7–12, British curriculum" lets a school instantly see the fit.
Show classroom impact with evidence
Go beyond "taught students" — show outcomes. Improvements in results, programs you launched, clubs you led, technology you introduced, or students you mentored all demonstrate impact. "Raised average exam scores by 15% over two years" is concrete and memorable.
Highlight skills schools value
Beyond subject knowledge, schools value classroom management, lesson planning, differentiation, parent communication, and educational technology. Weave these through your experience rather than just listing them, and mention any professional development you've completed.
