How to Write a CV for Teachers

December 30, 2025 5 min read

Schools hire on more than qualifications — they want to see how you teach, what you've achieved in the classroom, and whether you fit their subjects and age groups. A strong teaching CV makes all of that clear quickly. Here's how to write one.

Lead with qualifications and certification

Put your teaching qualifications front and center: your degree, teaching certification or license, and any subject endorsements. Include the issuing body and dates. For international schools, mention curricula you're certified in — IB, British, American, or national curriculum.

Specify subjects, grades, and curricula

Recruiters match teachers to vacancies fast, so state exactly what and whom you teach: subjects, grade levels or age ranges, and curricula. "Secondary mathematics teacher, grades 7–12, British curriculum" lets a school instantly see the fit.

Show classroom impact with evidence

Go beyond "taught students" — show outcomes. Improvements in results, programs you launched, clubs you led, technology you introduced, or students you mentored all demonstrate impact. "Raised average exam scores by 15% over two years" is concrete and memorable.

Highlight skills schools value

Beyond subject knowledge, schools value classroom management, lesson planning, differentiation, parent communication, and educational technology. Weave these through your experience rather than just listing them, and mention any professional development you've completed.
